about
‘Son Of Styx’ is the fourth single since the band’s 2019 debut offering, ‘Snakes’. Of the track, frontman Joe explains; “ We wanted to make something that can be both fetid and jubilant with energy to rival our happy go lucky peers, after all we live in pre-dystopian times where monsters are very real”.
....................
Alone is how we arrive and alone is how some of us are bound to remain. As a young hatchling, our un-named anti-hero found solace in the pages of old books on folklore and legend, though he couldn’t help feel he didn’t resemble the square-jawed princes or share the virtuous of knights and nobleman, rather he felt a kinship to the Beasts and monsters in the stories who were often misunderstood.
When you walk in a room and flowers wilt you really don’t have much chance with the towns favourite daughter, so instead he chose the shadows and caves over meadows and streams and lived that way for some years.
Eventually, the hubris of man will always lead them to desire destruction of what they don’t understand. With flames at his feet, a young hero steps into the mire and draws his blade…
lyrics
Son of Styx
(V1)
What was once green
Now becomes grey
Frost fingered fear
Rott and Decay
Cows give sour milk
All Flowers wilt
Through mist and cold
Chilled to your bones
(CHORUS)
Son of lies
Lover of vice
Brother to no one
It's hot as Styx in here
It's hot as Styx in here
Blade with whom I have lived,
Now With whom I die,
Serve right and justice one last time
Take One more eye for eye
(V2)
Whispers and odd looks
Stale air tells tales
Grown men act shook
Don't speak his name
Old scratch reaching
Red skies bleeding
Corners and caves
No mother's babe
(CHORUS)
Son of lies
Lover of vice
Brother to no one
It's hot as Styx in here
It's hot as Styx in here
Blade with whom I have lived,
Now With whom I die,
Serve right and justice one last time
Take One more eye for eye
Seek one last heart of evil
Still one last life of pain.
Cut well, old friend
And then goodbye
