about

Bristol alternative quintet Birdman Cult unleash their second single, ‘Janet’ on April 17 via Donut Recordings.

For the human contraceptive Joe Eden, coupling at college was strewn with hits and misses. One such hit however, proved almost too
hot to handle for the greasy teen. While the cool kids were rubbing unspeakables to EuroPop at the meat market, Joe had his sights set
on a bigger prize. Janet was a fully active, 18-certificate, foul-mouthed, redheaded succubus. Between sucking down cigarettes and
knocking back Nukie Brown, she frequented the more skuzzy underground dance halls, where she took a shine to our spindly-limbed
hopeless romantic. Known as the ‘Disco Queen of the North’ Janet had a reputation for being ‘the best hotstepper ‘pon the electric
dancefloor’. Well-versed in the sideways tango, she had a habit of dragging young bucks by the horn into fully-fledged manhood. Our
young male had to dig deep and do his best Billy Elliot impression to woo the more seasoned female. “Am I doing it right?”, he asked?
After a few missteps and light beatings from other would-be suitors, Joe’s mating dance caught Janet’s one good eye and was soon
tangled up with his ‘Hootie Tootie Disco Cutie’. “Janet, am I doing it right?”. This conquest was not without its consequences…. Will the
Birdman Smile upon the canny two? The course of true love (in this instance) did indeed run smooth; it was dripping in the grease from
the hungry lovers’ loins.

‘Janet’ is the follow-up single to the band's 2019 debut offering, ‘Snakes’. Of the track, frontman Joe explains; “‘Janet is a romantic
anthem for the undesirables; it’s a homage to the female lead in my favourite movie ‘The Greasy Strangler’. ‘Janet’ is sort of a Viz-style
caricature of the girl I lost my virginity to; the sort of sexually aggressive queen I needed to chuck me about a bit and teach me how to ‘dance’” .

lyrics

Got all the fellas jealous of her cigarette
The way she swig the bottle got me in a sweat
I fake my confidence and take a step
nonchalant to the Queen of the disco tech
Im only 17 and she’s been with men
She picks me up, spins me round doing' pirouettes
she nearly breaks my back when she dips my head
she's statuesque shes venus, Aphrodite, in the flesh
Janet am I doin right, am I doin right
Janet am I doin right, am I doin right
Now come on baby tell me
Yeah yeah yeahhhh
trying to get the hang of this still step-in on toes
A little weed of kid all knees and elbows
Set the tone pressin up leaning in close
Her ex sees me n beats me n makes bleed from nose
Ooohhh!
She drags me out the club we going back to her flat
The taxi driver blushin we chuck him the cash n then dash
feel like a fraud but she doesn’t too bothered at all
grants me passage from the door to the kitchen floor, raw!
Janet am I doin right, am I doin right?
Janet am I doin right, am I doin right?
Now come on baby tell me
Yeah yeah yeahhhh
You could be my forever love
She said “baby do u like to boogie?
If u do then you can be my smoothie
and u can do me like they do it in the movie
I can be your hootie tootie disco cutie hoo wee!!”
Hootie tootie disco cutie
Hootie tootie disco cutie
Hootie tootie disco cutie
Hootie tootie disco cutie
back at school, once a fool now im the boss of these halls
Everybody wanna know the in’s and out of it all
I Said I ain't given you none of the grease
Tonight i'm going back to party to be with be my queen
Get there lookin sharper than a lemon wedge to the eye
see her with another guy and i'm asking her why
I outa beat em til he’s black and he’s blue
Before I blow a fuse we in the booth knockin them boots
OHHH!
Janet am I doin right, am I doin right?
Janet am I doin right, am I doin right?
Come on!
Yeah yeah yeahhhh
Yeah yeah yeahhhh
